Most capsule wardrobe advice fails for the same reason most diets fail: it is designed for a version of you that does not exist. How many pieces should a capsule wardrobe have? Fewer than the internet tells you. Twelve to twenty core pieces is a realistic range for one season, excluding underwear, swimwear and shoes. The number matters much less than whether the pieces genuinely combine.
Do I need to stick to neutrals? No, but you do need a consistent palette. If your neutrals are warm - camel, cream, olive - keep them warm. Colour works beautifully in a capsule as long as it is deliberate rather than accidental.
