Greece asks a lot of a suitcase. In a single trip you might walk Athens' stone streets in the morning, climb to a hilltop ruin, board a ferry, swim off a rock ledge, and sit down to a long, late dinner above the water. What to wear in Greece is really a question about versatility: how to pack a small number of pieces that cover sightseeing, island hopping, swimming and evening without a single outfit feeling like an afterthought.
This is the Tuchuzy packing edit for Greece, written from our Bondi Beach boutique for women heading to Athens and the islands, whether you are travelling from Sydney, New York or anywhere in between. We have built it around linen, swimwear and a handful of easy separates, and tied each piece to a collection so you can find your own version.
Start With the Season
Greece changes character through the year. Summer is hot and bright, the shoulder months of spring and autumn are warm by day and cooler at night, and winter in Athens can be properly chilly. If you are travelling in the shoulder seasons, plan on a light layer for evenings and ferry decks; if you are going in high summer, prioritise breathable natural fabrics. Always check the forecast for your dates, as island weather can be windy even when it is warm.
The Linen Foundation
If there is one fabric to pack for Greece, it is linen. It breathes in the heat, dries quickly, and looks better as it softens and creases. Our linen collection is the place to start, and the Chosen by Tuchuzy range has some very good options. The Deconstructed Linen Pant in White is a favourite travel piece: wide enough to stay cool, polished enough for dinner. For a dress, the Linen Resin Halter Mini Dress in White is a warm-weather staple, and the full Chosen by Tuchuzy dresses edit has other lengths if you prefer a midi.
Pair linen with a Linen Wrap Mini Skirt in Black and a simple tank and you have a day outfit that photographs well against whitewashed walls. Browse Chosen by Tuchuzy skirts for more shapes. For wider reading on the fabric, our guide to linen versus cotton explains why it is such a good travel companion.
Swimwear for the Islands
You will spend a lot of time in and near the water, so pack more than one swim set. A classic one-piece is endlessly versatile, a bikini is practical for sunbathing, and a cover-up bridges the walk from the beach to lunch. Our swimwear collection brings together our favourites, and a few labels are worth exploring in particular. Hunza G is famous for its crinkle fabric that packs small and resists creasing, which makes it ideal for a suitcase, and the Hunza G Square Neck Swim in Red is a bold, elegant option. For bikinis, Montce Swim and Fae Swim offer considered cuts, and swim stock turns over quickly, so check the collection pages for what is currently available.
Add a beach bag that can carry a towel and a book, and a beach towel if you want to travel light and not rely on hotel supplies.
Sightseeing Without the Sweat
Athens and the archaeological sites involve a lot of walking on uneven stone, often in strong sun. Dress for comfort first. A loose linen shirt, a tank and wide-leg trousers, or a breezy dress with sturdy sandals or clean sneakers will carry you through. Many Greek churches and monasteries expect shoulders and knees to be covered, so keep a light scarf or shirt in your bag for visits. A good hat and designer sunglasses are not optional, and our hats collection has options that pack down without losing shape.
For tops, a few easy tanks and tees in neutral tones will mix with everything else you have packed. Fewer, better pieces that all work together will serve you far better than a suitcase full of single-purpose outfits.
Athens Versus the Islands
It helps to think of the trip in two halves. Athens is a city: busy, hot in summer, full of walking, and happy to be dressed up a little for dinner. Pack your most comfortable shoes, your breathable trousers and a dress you can wear from museum to rooftop bar. The islands are slower and sandier. Here the swimwear takes over, the linen gets softer with every wash, and your day outfit is often a cover-up, a hat and a bag with a towel in it.
The ferry between them deserves its own thought. Decks can be windy and the cabins can be cold, so keep a light layer, sunglasses and a hat in your carry-on rather than the main suitcase. A wide-leg trouser or a soft knit set is much more comfortable on a long crossing than anything tight or structured, and our matching sets collection is full of two-piece options that count as one outfit but give you two to mix.
Finally, remember that you will be photographed. Whitewashed walls, blue doors and bright water reward a simple palette, so lean on white, sand, black and one confident accent colour rather than a lot of busy prints. The result is a suitcase that looks cohesive in every picture and dresses itself with almost no effort.
Dinner Above the Water
Evenings in Greece tend to be long and relaxed, and while the dress code is rarely strict, it is worth having one or two pieces that feel special. A slip dress or a satin skirt with a fitted top is easy to pack and quick to dress up with gold jewellery. The Satin Strap Midi Skirt from Chosen by Tuchuzy is a good example, and a Linen Resin Halter Top in Black keeps the look cool and contemporary. Our designer jewellery edit has plenty of pieces that travel well, and we recommend one pair of earrings you will wear every night.
A Capsule Packing List
For a week, we would pack roughly this: two swim sets and one cover-up, two linen tops or shirts, one pair of wide-leg linen trousers, one linen or cotton skirt, two dresses (one casual, one dressier), one light layer for evenings, comfortable sandals, a dressier flat or heel, a hat, sunglasses, and a bag that works for both the beach and dinner. Mix and match within a tight colour palette of white, black, sand and one accent colour, and everything will talk to everything else. If you are building a longer trip, our earlier Santorini packing edit goes deeper on the island leg.
